GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Dec. 5, 2010 – The USA won four medals on the final day of competition at the 2010 Pan American Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, including a third gold medal by 2010 Pan Am all-around champion Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md. The United States won a total of eight medals at the competition – three gold, four silver, and one bronze – and qualified for both individual and group rhythmic gymnastics for the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

Zetlin, who trains at Capital Rhythmics, earned a 24.250 for her ball final routine to win the gold medal. Mexico took second and third with Vero Navarro (23.850) and Cynthia Valdez (23.775), respectively. Shelby Kisiel of Houston/North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, finished in fifth place with a 23.150.

The USA also took second and third in ribbon finals. Kisiel recorded a 23.225 for the silver medal, and Zetlin posted a 23.100 for the bronze. Mexico’s Navarro was the gold medalist with a 24.800.

The U.S. group, which trains at North Shore Rhythmic in Buffalo Grove, Ill., won a silver medal for both for their five hoop and three ribbons/two ropes routines, recording a 23.075 and 21.950, respectively. The group includes Jessica Bogdanov, Megan Frohlich, Michelle Przybylo, Sofya Roytburg, and Sydney Sachs. Canada won gold on both events, taking the titles for three hoop/two ring and five hoop with a 23.000 and 23.775, respectively.

Earlier in the competition, the USA also finished second in the individual team competition.
