ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Nov. 18, 2009 –The 2009 U.S. World Age Group Team earned three medals on the first day of competition at the 2009 World Age Group Trampoline and Tumbling Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia. Kiara Nowlin of Oxnard, Calif., and Shaylee Dunavin of Amarillo, Texas, won the gold and silver medals in 13-14 girls’ tumbling, and Nicole Mahoney of San Diego, Calif., won bronze in 15-16 girls’ double mini-trampoline. In tumbling, the USA earned the top two spots in girls’ 13-14. Nowlin scored a 31.400 to take the gold, and Dunavin won the silver with a 30.700. Darya Mironova of Russia took the bronze with a 30.100. Russian’s Aleksandr Bezyulev and Yury Svergunov won gold and bronze with scores of 34.000 and 32.000, respectively. Great Britains Greg Townley took silver (32.000).

Russia won four medals in 15-16 double mini-trampoline as Anastasiya Ignatyeva and Daria Romanova took the gold and silver medals in girls’ double-mini with scores of 66.600 and 66.000, while Alexander Odintsov (71.900) and Andrey Gladen’kov (69.400) took gold and bronze in boys’. Curtis Gerein of Canada won the boys’ silver (69.600). The USA’s Mahoney won the girls’ bronze with a 65.400. Alex Renkert of Indianapolis, Ind., just missed the podium, finishing in fourth place.

The 11-12 trampoline gold medal for boys’ went to Dylan Schmidt of New Zeland (36.200). Artsiom Smirnou of Belarus took second place (35.800), and Russia’s Oleg Selyutin finished in third (35.500). On the girls’ side, Lea Labrousse of France won the gold (35.500), Rana Nakano of Japan the silver (35.400), and Ana Odishvili of Georgia the bronze (34.300).

In synchronized trampoline, France’s Redha Messatfa and Loic Dumaitre, won the boys’ 17-18 gold with a 47.400. Australians Shaun Swadling and Aiden Thomas earned the silver with 46.500. Keegan Soehn and Sebastien St-Germain of Canada and Daniel Greaves and Bradley Hampson of Great Britain tying for third with scores of 46.300. In a tight race for the girls, Canada’s Mariah Madigan and Samantha Smith won gold (44.300). Rachel Schmidt and Jessica Alysse Shaw of New Zealand took silver (44.100), while Great Britain’s Natasha Carter and Emma Scanlon tied with Japan’s Makiko Matsuda and Chihiro Yamamoto for bronze (44.000).
