MONTREAL, Que., Canada, March 2, 2008 – The United States won a total of 14 medals (six gold, three silver, five bronze) during the two days of competition at the Gymnix International in Montreal Canada. The USA won the team gold medal, with the USA’s Chelsea Davis of Lakeway, Texas, and Samantha Shapiro of Los Angeles winning the senior and junior, all-around titles, respectively.

The members of the gold-medal U.S. Team were Sarah DeMeo of Overland Park, Kansas/GAGE; Davis, Texas Dreams; and Mattie Larson of Los Angeles and Shapiro, All-Olympian Gymnastics Center. Randi Stageberg and Sheriese Clark also were in the field representing their club, Excalibur, and their performances are included in the U.S. medal count.

In the senior division, the USA swept the all-around. Davis took the title with 58.975 points. Larson was second at 58.625. Stageberg finished in third place at 56.525, and DeMeo was fourth at 56.350. Stageberg won the floor exercise title, as well as a bronze for the beam. Davis was second on the balance beam. Larson and DeMeo finished third on the uneven bars and floor, respectively.

Shapiro won the most medals among the Americans. Along with the team gold medal, she won the title in the junior all-around, uneven bars and balance beam, as well as a bronze on vault. Clark was second in the junior floor exercise.
