MONTREAL, Que., Canada, Jan. 31, 2011 – The USA won a total of 12 medals (four gold, five silver and three bronze) over the weekend at the 2011 Montreal (Canada) Rhythmic Gymnastics International Invitational and World Cup at the Centre Pierre Charbonneau sports hall in Montreal, Que.
Alexis Page of New York City won the senior all-around title at the Montreal Rhythmic Gymnastics International Invitational with a 92.125. Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa., claimed the bronze with a 90.525. Austria’s Sophia Lindtner took the silver (91.800).
Page, who trains at Aviator Sports and Recreation, also medaled in all four event finals. She finished first in clubs, scoring a 23.250; second in ball (23.050) and ribbon (23.075); and third in hoop (22.750). Kozitskiy, who trains at Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy, was second in clubs (22.775), fourth in hoop (22.500) and ribbon (22.650), and fifth on ball (22.600). Lindtner claimed the titles in hoop (22.925), ball (23.450) and ribbon (23.250).
Earlier in the junior invitational division, U.S. junior Jazzy Kerber of Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmics, won four medals. She won the clubs gold medal (23.675), the hoop silver medal (23.750), and the bronze medal for both ribbon (22.750) and the all-around (90.850). Cindy Lu of Blaine, Minn./Twin Cities Rhythmic, was seventh in the all-around.
The USA team of Kerber, Page and Pozitskiy also brought home the team gold medal. Finland finished second, and Canada placed third.
In the World Cup, 2010 U.S. all-around champion Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., finished sixth in the all-around (96.425) and teammate Shelby Kisiel of Houston finished tenth. Belarus claimed the top two spots, with Liubou Charkashyna (107.225) and Aliaksandra Narkevich (107.200) finishing first and second, respectively. Russia’s Margarita Mamun finished in third at 106.925.
Both Zetlin and Kisiel advanced to event finals. Zetlin, who trains at Capital Gymnastics, qualified for three event finals, finishing sixth in ribbon (25.675), and eighth in both ball (21.150) and clubs (24.150). Kisiel, who trains at North Shore Rhythmics, finished sixth on hoop (24.225).
