WINNIPEG, Manitoba – With its top athlete, Blaine Wilson (Columbus, Ohio), hampered by injury, the United States mustered a bronze medal in team competition at the Pacific Alliance Championships, held at Winnipeg Arena Friday evening.

China claimed the gold medal with a team score of 167.100. Australia, behind the performance of all-around gold medalist Andrei Kravtsov, was second with 163.575. Team USA scored 163.350.
Battling to overtake the Australians throughout the meet, the Americans had an opportunity to recover from a 1.125 deficit in the last rotation, with the USA on high bar and Australia on the pommel horse. The Australians created the chance when three of their four athletes fell, but Kravtsov slammed the door on American hopes with a 8.950 to close out the competition for the Australians.
The only USA athlete to compete all-around, John Roethlisberger (Minneapolis, Minn.), placed seventh with a score of 52.850. The all-around gold went to Kravtsov with a 55.300. China claimed the silver and bronze as Xing Aowei scored 55.000 and teammate Lu Bin had a 54.625. Despite competing only five events, Wilson managed a 46.150, good for 19th place.
Competition continues Saturday with women’s team and individual all-around. Sunday will see the individual event finals for both the men and women.
