INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 11, 2016 – The United States is entering two teams in the 2016 RD761 International Junior Team Cup Jan. 15-16 at Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. Canada, Colombia, Great Britain and Japan are also competing in the two-day event. The International Junior Team Cup is being held in conjunction with the RD761 Gymnastics Invitational.

The USA is sending its top junior elite gymnasts, including Davis Grooms of Katy, Texas/Champions Gymnastics, who won the junior 15-16 all-around title at the 2015 P&G Gymnastics Championships in Indianapolis, as well as junior 15-16 P&G Championships medalists Shane Wiskus of Spring Park, Minn./Mini-Hops Gymnastics (silver), Tanner Justus of Cypress, Texas/Cypress Gymnastics (bronze/tie), and Matthew Wenske of Houston/Mini-Hops Gymnastics (bronze/tie). In addition the 2015 Men’s National Junior Olympic Championships junior elite medalists on the team are: Cameron Bock of Tustin, Calif./SCATS Gymnastics, 15 champion; Vitaly Guimaraes of Arvada, Colo./5280 Gymnastics, 14 champion; and Alexei Vernyi of Cypress, Texas/Cypress Gymnastics, 15 silver medalist.

The competition schedule is: Jan. 15 – Team and all-around finals, 5 p.m.; and Jan. 16 – individual event finals, 5 p.m. A welcome reception is slated for Jan. 14.

Each team has five gymnasts. For the team competition, four gymnasts compete on each apparatus, with the three top scores counting toward the team score. The all-around rankings will be determined based on performances at the team competition. With a maximum of two per country, the top eight on each apparatus qualify for event finals.
