MONTERREY, Mexico – The United States qualified to send two men and two women to compete in trampoline at the 2007 Pan American Games, July 13-29, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by winning the men’s team competition and finishing second in the women’s team event at the 2006 Pan American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico. In addition, the USA garnered one gold, three silver and two bronze medals in individual competition.

Chris Estrada of Lafayette, La./Trampoline & Tumbling Express, almost overtook Canada’s Jason Burnett to win the men’s trampoline competition. Estrada, who was first after the prelims, finished with a 38.7, just two-tenths of a point behind Burnett, to claim the silver medal. Ryan Weston of Chubbuck, Iowa/E.P. Athletics, rounded out the top three for the senior men. For senior women, Brittany Dircks of Orland Park, Ill./Midwest Training and Ice Center, also second, finishing behind Karen Cockburn of Canada. Amada Bailey of Levelland, Texas/Acrospirits, just missed the medals stand and finished fourth.
Competing in the junior women’s competition, Nani Vercruyssen of Honolulu/Hawaii Academy easily won the gold medal with her 34.50. Kailey McLeod of Canada was second, followed by Dakota Earnest of Levelland, Texas, in third. Canada’s Philip Barbaro edged out Philip Devine of Pecatonica, Ill./J&J Tumbling and Trampoline, for the junior men’s top spot.
