INDIANAPOLIS, July 14, 2016 – USA Gymnastics learned today that a positive drug test for a low level of hydrochlorothiazde (HCTZ) by Kristen Shaldybin of Brooklyn, N.Y./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, a member of the USA’s rhythmic gymnastics group that will compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been determined to have been ingested by her without fault or negligence and will not face a period of ineligibility or loss of results. The positive test has been attributed to the levels of HCTZ in her municipality’s drinking water.
“USA Gymnastics is grateful for the assistance we have received in this process on behalf of Kristen,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “Having a positive drug test result from someone’s drinking water is a real concern, and we appreciate everyone’s efforts in identifying the source of the issue.”
