INDIANAPOLIS, February 1, 2013 – Each year, USA Gymnastics celebrates National Gymnastics Day to increase exposure of our sport, promote fitness and raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. In 2013, USA Gymnastics is once again preparing to ‘Turn the World Upside Down.’
To celebrate the sport and mark the day, gymnasts, coaches, gymnastics clubs and fans alike are invited to turn upside down for a weeklong celebration beginning Sept. 21, 2013. Then, snap a photo and share it, along the number of individual participating, on the USA Gymnastics Facebook page. We hope to have more than the 43,901 individuals ‘Turn the World Upside Down’ in 2013, raising the bar higher than the number of participants in 2012. We are also encouraging fans to spread the word and share photos on Twitter and Instagram, using the official hashtag of the event, #NGD2013.
USA Gymnastics encourages our Member Clubs to set up a Fitness Zone as part of their National Gymnastics Day celebration. The Fitness Zone allows gymnasts and enthusiasts to learn the basics of cardio, strength, flexibility and balance, while learning about the benefits of exercise and healthy choices.
National Gymnastics Day 2013 will also be the most interactive and fan-friendly to date, as we host a variety of contests and polls throughout the year.
Leading to National Gymnastics Day, U.S. national team members will share how gymnastics has turned their world upside down, how it has changed their lives and given them opportunities they never imagined.
All money raised for Children’s Miracle Network is donated to the club’s local hospital and will aid children fighting illness. Clubs can raise funds by hosting an event for National Gymnastics Day and donating the proceeds. Since 2001, gymnastics clubs across the country have raised more than $1.8 million.
