INDIANAPOLIS, July 22, 2016 – Aimee Boorman of World Champions Centre has been designated as the head coach for the women’s gymnastics team that will compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mihai Brestyan of Brestyan’s American Gymnastics is the assistant coach. Aly Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, was voted team captain by her teammates.

The five-woman team are: Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre; Gabby Douglas of Tarzana, Calif./Buckeye Gymnastics; Laurie Hernandez of Old Bridge, N.J./MG Elite; Madison Kocian of Dallas, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics; and Raisman. The three replacement athletes are: Ashton Locklear of Hamlet, N.C./Everest Gymnastics; MyKayla Skinner of Gilbert, Ariz./Desert Lights Gymnastics; and Ragan Smith of Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams Gymnastics. Raisman was also team captain of the Fierce Five in 2012.

Boorman is the personal coach for Biles, while Brestyan trains Raisman.

All athletes named to the Olympic Team are subject to the approval of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Board of Directors and the complete U.S. Olympic Team will be officially announced on Saturday, July 23, in Los Angeles during the Road to Rio Tour presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance on Venice Beach. The live announcement show will take place at 12:45 p.m. PT and will air on @TeamUSA via Periscope and Twitter.

The members of the Women’s Selection Committee were: Martha Karolyi, women’s national team coordinator; Tatiana Perskaia, brevet judge; and Terin Humphrey, athlete representative.
