SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 18, 2007 – USA Gymnastics has named the U.S. Women’s Team that will compete in the 2007 World Gymnastics Championships, Sept. 1-9, 2007, in Stuttgart, Germany.

 

The seven members of the team are: Ivana Hong of Blue Springs, Mo./GAGE; Shawn Johnson of West Des Moines, Iowa/Chow’s Gymnastics; Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas/WOGA; Samantha Peszek of Indianapolis, Ind./DeVeau’s Gymnastics; Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass./Brestyan’s; Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind./Sharp’s Gymnastics Academy; and Shayla Worley of Orlando, Fla./Orlando Metro.

 

“It’s exactly what we expected, a mixture of young and more experienced gymnasts,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics.

 

The 2007 World Championships is the qualifying event for the 2008 Olympic Games.  The top 12 teams advance to compete in Beijing.  The women’s team was named following the conclusion of the women’s competition at the 2007 Visa Championships in San Jose, California.
