INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 30, 2024) – USA Gymnastics celebrates 2024 annual award winners across all disciplines who were recognized through the year. Award ceremonies were held at various competitions this season, including the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, USA Gymnastics Championships, and 2024 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
All award winners are listed below by discipline.
Acrobatic
- Athletes of the Year: The senior women’s trio of Mariam Tutberidze (Owings Mills, Md./Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer), Grace Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md./Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer) and Kayla Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md./Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer). The group won five international medal this season, including two at the 2024 Acrobatic World Championships in September.
- Sportsperson of the Year: Mo Arthur (Rolla, Mo./Mid America Acro Tumbling). Arthur won World bronze at the 2024 Acro World Championships with partner Ariana Katsov (Owensville, Mo./Mid America Acro Tumbling), and the pair is also the reigning U.S. champions in the women’s pair all-around, combined and dynamic divisions.
- Coach of the Year: Simon Tutberidze of Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics. Tutberidze has coached a number of World Cup group medalists and most recently coached Mariam Tutberidze and Grace and Kayla Vonder Haar to their two medals at the 2024 World Championships. He also is the parent of Mariam Tutberidze.
- Janet VonBargen Award: Dylan Maurer received this award for his outstanding volunteer service and dedication to the Acrobatic Gymnastics Program as a judge.
- Glenn Sundby (International Track) Award: Arthur and Katsov were selected by the meet referee to receive this award for their outstanding overall performance at the 2024 USA Gymnastics Championships.
- Star Service Award: Bobby Boswell was chosen by the Acrobatic Gymnastics Program Committee for this award. Now retired, Boswell dedicated more than 25 years to the sport of acrobatics as an athletic trainer and is deeply respected by the U.S. acrobatic program.
Men’s Artistic
- Athlete of the Year: Khoi Young (Bowie, Md./Stanford University). The 21-year-old was the 2024 NCAA all-around champion and three-event medalist. He was a traveling replacement athlete for the 2024 Olympic Team and is the 2024 U.S. parallel bars silver medalist and all-around bronze medalist.
- Sportsperson of the Year: Cameron Bock (Tustin, Calif./University of Michigan). Bock claimed the U.S. bronze medal on the horizontal bar at this year’s Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
- Coach of the Year: Thom Glielmi of Stanford University. Winning the honor for the third straight year, Glielmi and Stanford had ties to two of the five athletes on the Olympic bronze medal-winning men’s team in Paris. In collegiate competition, Stanford extended their win streak in the NCAA Championships to five.
- Men’s Development Program Coach of the Year: Adam Lomax of Agility Kids in Temecula, CA. Lomax has coached multiple Junior National Team athletes, including Justin Park (San Diego, Calif./Agility) and Nathan Roman (Poway, Calif./Agility). He most recently coached two teams to gold at the 2024 DTB Pokal Team Challenge in Germany and Grizzly Classic in Canada.
- Frank J. Cumiskey Service Award: Tom Meadows of Cypress Academy. This award honors individuals for their contributions to the USA Gymnastics Junior Men’s Programs. Meadows has been a part of the men’s gymnastics community since the 1980s and currently fulfills many roles across the Junior National Coaching Staff, Men’s Development Program Committee and Region 3 Elite Team. He formerly served on the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors.
- Dusty Ritter Visionary Award: Bill Foster received this honor posthumously. This award is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated years of exceptional foresight, leadership, and advocacy for the U.S. Men’s Program. Foster worked with many Olympians, including Trent Dimas, Jonathan Horton and Raj Bhavsar and mentored award-winner Tom Meadows. He served as a USA Gymnastics State Chairman and Men’s Program Committee Member, and also received the Frank J. Cumiskey Service Award in 1981.
- Star Service Award: Sherry Von Riesen. Von Riesen served the men’s artistic program for more than three decades, beginning with her volunteer service in 1988. She was integral in procuring funds and resources for the men’s resident program at the Olympic Training Center when it began and was soon named the Resident Coordinator, and shortly after, the Athlete Liaison. Although retired, Von Riesen continues to volunteer at USA Gymnastics events.
Rhythmic
- Athlete of the Year: Rin Keys (Porter Ranch, Calif./Burlo Gymnastics). The U.S. all-around and hoop champion was a first-year senior in 2024, claiming ribbon silver and clubs bronze at the 2024 USA Gymnastics Championships. Keys won 10 international medals in competitions throughout the season.
- Sportsperson of the Year: Lili Mizuno (Northbrook, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center). Mizuno was the country’s replacement athlete for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and won U.S. titles on clubs and ribbon.
- Coach of the Year: Natalia Klimouk of North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center in Illinois. This is the second year Klimouk was selected for this award, coaching Evita Griskenas (Orland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) to her second Olympic Games in Paris.
- Star Service Award: Joyce Chaplin. Chaplin served the rhythmic gymnastics community for 25 years and held many roles during her time with the sport. As a part of Region 2, she was a part of several committees on the State, Regional and National levels. Chaplin recently announced her retirement and was awarded the honor posthumously at the 2024 USA Gymnastics Championships.
Trampoline & Tumbling
- Athletes of the Year: Jessica Stevens (Ellicott City, Md./Fairland Gymnastics) for trampoline, Kaden Brown (Herriman, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) for tumbling, and Ruben Padilla (Bluffdale, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) for double mini. Stevens was selected as the women’s trampoline Olympian for 2024, and Padilla joined her in Paris as the men’s replacement athlete. Brown was the 2024 U.S. tumbling champion and has claimed the title for five consecutive years.
- Sportsperson of the Year: Hope Bravo (Rosebud, Texas/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling). Bravo is a 2023 World medalist and finished top five at the 2024 Winter Classic in tumbling this season.
- Coach of the Year: Dmitri Poliaroush (TRA), Becky Brown (TUM) and Alyx Walker (DMT). Poliaroush coaches at Trampoline and Tumbling Express in Louisiana, Brown at Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling in Utah and Walker at Dynamite Gymnastics in Maryland.
- Star Service Award: Nuno Merino of Merino Trampoline Academy in Huntsville, Ala. In addition to being a coach, Merino serves the trampoline & tumbling program as a Senior Trampoline National Team Coordinator, T&T Development Committee Chair and is a T&T Elite Committee Trampoline Representative.
Women’s Artistic
- Athlete of the Year: Kaliya Lincoln (Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics). Lincoln had a strong competitive season which culminated at the 2024 Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, where she was named a non-traveling replacement athlete to the Olympic Team. She also was the 2024 Winter Cup floor exercise silver medalist.
- Sportsperson of the Year: Nola Matthews (Gilroy, Calif./Airborne Gymnastics Training Center). Named recipient of the award for her positive impact on her fellow athletes throughout the 2024 competitive season.
- Coach of the Year: Cecile Landi, World Champions Centre. Landi served as the women’s Olympic head coach, and two of the athletes on the Olympic Team were coached by Landi and her husband, Laurent. Combined, Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles won five medals in Paris.
- Star Service Award: Kittia Carpenter received this award for her extensive service in the U.S. women’s program, including her representative roles on the International Elite Committee, Program Council and the Board of Directors.
- Connie Maloney Dedication to Sport Award: Linda Beran of Region 4. Beran served as the Region 4 Regional Technical Director and Committee Chair for more than 20 years and has committed countless hours to volunteering for the U.S. women’s program. This award is to acknowledge an individual’s contribution to the advancement of the women’s program.
- Women’s Program Club of the Year: Brandy Johnson’s Global Gymnastics out of Clermont, Florida. The award winner is selected by the Women’s Development Program Committee out of regional nominations for a program that demonstrates excellence, good sportsmanship, team spirit and ethics and contributes to regional efforts.
