ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Nov. 14, 2009 – Team USA had a strong showing at the 2009 World Trampoline and Tumbling Championships at the St. Petersburg (Russia) Sports and Concert Complex, reaching 10 finals and winning three medals;

On the last day of competition, the USA competed in five individual events finals: men’s and women’s double mini-trampoline, men’s and women’s tumbling, and men’s synchronized trampoline.

On double mini-trampoline, Aubree Balkan of Carlsbad, Calif., missed the podium by only one tenth, finishing in fourth place with a score of 67.000. Russia won the women’s double-mini gold and silver medals with Victoria Voronina (68.300) and Galina Goncharenko (68.000). Canada’s Corissa Boychuk took the bronze medal (67.100). On men’s double mini, Portugal’s Andre Lico (75.500) and André Fernandes (69.300) won the gold and bronze medals. Tim Lunding of Sweden earned the silver medal (69.600). The USA’s Austin White of Newport Coast, Calif., missed his second pass to finish in eighth place.

In tumbling, Kaitlin Tortorich of Haymarket, Va., was the highest U.S. finisher, earning fourth place in women’s tumbling with a score 62.200. Russians Anna Korobeynikova and Elena Krasnokutskaya won the gold (69.400) and silver (66.900) medals, respectively. . Ashley Speed of Canada took bronze (62.800). Russia also took gold and bronze in men’s tumbling, with Tagir Murtazaev finishing first (77.300) and Mikhail Kostyanov third (73.900). Yang Song of China won the silver medal (75.000). The USA’s Kalon Ludvigson of Pocatello, Idaho, finished in sixth place (68.900). Japan, France and Ukraine earned the top three spots in synchronized trampoline, scoring 50.800, 50.000 and 50.000, respectively. The USA’s Steven Gluckstein of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., and Logan Dooley of Lake Forest, Calif., finished in sixth place (49.300);No one from the USA competed in the women’s trampoline final;In competition yesterday, the USA won the team silver medal in women’s tumbling and the team bronze medals in both men’s and women’s double mini-trampoline.
