MONTREAL, Que. – Samantha Peszek of McCordsville, Ind./Deveau’s Gymnastics, lead the USA’s medal haul by winning the junior all-around, vault and balance beam titles at the 2006 International Gymnix in Montreal, Que. Teammates Shawn Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa/Chow’s Gymnastics, and Shantessa Pama, Dana Point, Calif./Gym-Max Gymnastics, won gold medals for the floor exercise and uneven bars, respectively. The four-woman squad, which also included Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind./Sharp’s, garnered a total of 12 medals, five gold, four silver and three bronze, in the junior division.

The USA swept the all-around competition, with Sloan, Johnson and Pama finishing second through fourth, respectively, behind Peszek. In addition to her three titles, Peszek placed third on the uneven bars. The USA also went 1-2-3 in the vault, with Johnson and Sloan taking second and third, respectively. Sloan finished second on the balance beam. Pama’s second medal came in the floor exercise, where she tied for second.  

The International Gymnix featured gymnasts from Belgium, Canada, Japan, Russia and the United States.
