COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 27, 2008 – Paul Hamm of Waukesha, Wis., successfully underwent hand surgery earlier today. Hamm broke the fourth metacarpal of his right hand on May 22 during his parallel bars routine at the 2008 Visa Championships in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Lawrence M. Lubbers performed the surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital. They used a plate and nine screws to secure the metacarpal bone. Hamm and Dr. Lubbers will meet on Thursday to finalize the proper course of action. Rehab is expected to start on Thursday.

“The surgery went perfectly,” said Hamm following the surgery. “We are already ahead of schedule.”
