GENEVA, May 25, 2017 – The U.S. women’s group of Sophie Gruszka, Livermore, Calif./West Coast Training Center; Morgan Sweeney; Livermore, Calif./West Coast Training Center; and Amanda Waterson, Livermore, Calif./West Coast Training Center, are ranked second after the first of three days of competition at the Geneva (Switzerland) World Cup.
Competition for the U.S. continues tomorrow with the balance exercises in women’s group and mixed pair competition. The finals are scheduled for Saturday.
In the women’s group competition, the U.S. trio scored a 27.670, just behind the Russian women’s group of Polina Galanova, Viktoria Kuriavtseva and Alina Petrova at 27.900. China’s Duan Yushan, Ji Qiuqiong and Liu Jieyu are third (27.610).
Aisley Boynton, Riverside, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy, and Maxim Sedochenkoff, Riverside, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy, and Axel Osborne, Beaumont, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy, and Tiffani Williams, Moreno Valley, Calif./Realis Gymnastics Academy, represented Team USA in the mixed pair competition. After performing their dynamic routine, Boyton and Sedochenkoff are currently fifth with a 27.780, while Osborne and Williams, the 2016 World silver medalists, are sixth, posting a 27.570. The Portuguese pair of Joao Martins and Carolina Dias lead the way at 28.860.
