GYOR, Hungary, June 28, 2019 – The U.S. women won the team bronze medal at the International Gymnastics Federation’s inaugural Junior World Championships for men’s and women’s gymnastics. Individual event finals are Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. local time at the Audi Arena in Gyor, Hungary. All three of the U.S. women advanced to the event finals. Kayla DiCello of Boyds, Md./Hill’s Gymnastics, will compete in all four event finals. Skye Blakely of Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics, is in the uneven bars and floor exercise finals. Sydney Barros of Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams, posted the top vault score to advance to the final. For the men, Matthew Cormier of Milton, Mass./Massachusetts Elite, advanced to the floor exercise final by tying for fifth, and Garrett Braunton of Cypress, Texas/Cypress Academy of Gymnastics, and Isaiah Drake of Los Angeles, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica, advanced to the still rings final by ranking sixth and eighth, respectively.

The event finals schedule is: June 29 – men’s floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings; women’s vault, uneven bars; and June 30 – men’s vault, parallel bars, horizonal bar; women’s balance beam, floor exercise. The livestream and additional coverage schedule and links are below.

In the team competition, the USA posted a 109.380 for third, just missing the silver medal by 0.117 points. Russia tallied a 111.654 for first, and China was second at 109.497. The USA’s team event scores were: vault, 28.708; uneven bars, 27.741; balance beam (first event for the USA), 26.332; and floor exercise, 26.599. Konnor McClain of Cross Lanes, W.Va./Revolution Gymnastics, is the traveling alternate.

In the all-around, DiCello had the USA’s best total score of 54.765 for fourth place. China’s Ou Yushan just edged past DiCello for third place at 54.931. Russia’s Viktoriia Listunova and Vladislava Urazova won the gold (55.323) and silver (55.298) medals, respectively. Barros earned a 53.974 for fifth place. Blakely claimed a 53.407 but was not ranked in the all-around due to the two per country rule. The U.S. women’s individual event scores were: DiCello – vault/14.300, uneven bars/13.833, balance beam/13.366, and floor exercise/13.266; Barros – vault/14.408 (top two-vault score, 14.124), uneven bars/13.400, balance beam/12.966, and floor exercise/13.200; and Blakely – vault/14.233, uneven bars/13.908, balance beam/11.933, and floor exercise/13.333.

For the team finals, all three gymnasts competed on every event, with the top two scores counting for the team score. The top two scoring gymnasts per country appear in the all-around final rankings. The top eight gymnasts, maximum two per country, advanced to the event finals.
