SUCRE, Bolivia, September 16, 2016 – USA won the team gold medal on Thursday at the 2016 Junior Pan American Championships at the Poligimnasio Complejo Deportivo Coliseo Max Toledo in Sucre, Chuquisaca, Bolivia. Team USA’s Bennet Huang of Palo Alto, Calif./West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy, and Andrew Bitner of Buford, Ga./Gymnastix Training Center, claimed the all-around silver and bronze medals, respectively. Additionally, all four U.S. gymnasts qualified to compete in event finals set for Sept. 17-18.

The U.S. men racked up a 243.500 to clinch the team gold medal. Team USA posted the top scores on floor (41.350), pommel horse (39.800), and still rings (39.850). Brazil was second at 241.645 and Mexico finished third (236.400).

In the all-around, Huang earned the silver medal with his 81.150, followed by teammate Bitner, who claimed the bronze at 80.850. Vitaliy Guimaraes of Arvada, Colo./5280 Gymnastics, finished sixth (79.350) and Justin Ah Chow of Miami, Fla./Universal Gymnastics, placed 10th (78.150). Brazil’s Bernardo Actus Miranda captured the gold medal with 82.150 points.

WCOGA’s Vince Miller is the U.S. men’s coach, and Samuel Phillips of Woodland Hills, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica, is the replacement athlete.
