BIRMINGHAM, England, Nov. 24, 2011 – Team USA’s trampoline and tumbling athletes earned four medals on the opening day of the 2011 T&T World Age Group Competition held in Birmingham, England, today. Shaylee Dunavin of Amarillo, Texas/All American Gymnastics, claimed the gold medal in the women’s 15-16 double mini-trampoline final, while teammate Tristan Van Natta of McCordsville, Ind./Flipside, grabbed the bronze medal. Garret Waterstradt of Paxton, Ill./Irish’s Gymnastics, and Tyler Waller of Bloomington, Ill./Gymnastics Etc., finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s 15-16 double-mini trampoline final.
Dunavin earned a 66.700 two-pass total, behind a 34.700 first pass and 32.000 second pass in the women’s 15-16 double-mini trampoline final, the highest total in the final. Van Natta was close behind in third, earning 66.100 points with scores of 32.400 and 33.700. Team USA’s Ayanna Austin of Reistertown, Md./United Gymnastix, finished in sixth with a 63.900.
In the men’s 15-16 double-mini final, Waterstradt scored 68.200, after earning 34.800 and 33.400 for his first and second passes, respectively, to take the gold. Waller was just behind with a 68.000, earning the silver medal. Waller’s individual pass scores were 34.100 and 33.900. Joseph Green of Bloomington, Ill./Gymnastics Etc., finished in eighth (61.900).
Samuel Chiacchia of Colorado Springs, Colo./Artsports Trampoline World, and Sean Sargent of Mason, Ohio/Queen City Gymnastics, finished fifth in the men’s 17-18 synchronized trampoline final, earning 42.100 points.
Competition at the 2011 T&T World Age Group Competition continues tomorrow with competition in men’s and women’s 13-14 trampoline, men’s and women’s 15-16 tumbling, men’s and women’s 17-18 double-mini trampoline and men’s and women’s 11-12 synchronized trampoline.
