LIMA, Peru (May 18, 2024) – American senior athletes won gold and silver in synchronized trampoline, while 17-21 athletes also took gold and silver in individual Club Cup competition Saturday at the 2024 Junior and Senior Pan American Championships and Club Cup in Lima, Peru.

In men’s synchro, the pair of individual bronze medalist Cody Gesuelli (Middletown, N.J./Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy) and Paul Bretscher (Knoxville, Tenn./Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy) handily won the gold medal with a score of 49.190, ahead of Brazil with 47.550 and Canada with a 46.790. Ryan Scott and Elijah Vogel, both of Longmont, Colo./Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics, scored 49.150 in qualifying to be in second position behind Gesuelli and Bretscher’s leading qualifying score of 49.540, but did not advance to the final due to the one-per-country rule.

Friday’s Pan Am senior women’s gold medalist, Ava DeHanes (Holmdel, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy), teamed with Leah Edelman (Holmdel, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy) in women’s synchronized trampoline to place second with a score of 44.900. Mariola Garcia and Dafne Navarro Loza of Mexico took gold with a score of 47.640, with Brazil third with a 44.770. The American pair of Logan McCoy (Highlands, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy) and Trinity Van Natta (Huntsville, Ala./Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy) also were in action in qualifying, posting a 22.550.

Club Cup heats up

The U.S. opened Club Cup action on Saturday. Maia Amano (Honolulu, Hawaii/Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy) reigned in the women’s 17-21 trampoline, winning the gold medal with room to spare with her personal-best score of 53.690. Julia Rocha of Brazil was second with a 51.380, and Valentina Podesta of Argentina was third with a 50.030. Logan McCoy landed just out of the medals, fourth with a 47.980. Earlier Saturday, DeHanes and Edelman were fourth (52.320) and fifth (51.750) in qualifying but did not advance to the eight-person final due to the two-per-country rule.

In men’s 17-21 action, Ryan Maccagnan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Stars Gymnastics) grabbed a silver medal, just shy of gold. His score of 54.330 placed him behind Tomas Roberto of Argentina’s 54.440 and ahead of Donovan Perez of Mexico in third with 53.890. Zach Ramacci (St. John, Ind./Element Tumbling and Trampoline) placed eighth with an 11.70. Also active in qualifying were Jace Williams (Cave Creek, Ariz./North Valley Gymnastics), 53.560; and Max Poveda (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./World Elite Gymnastics), 50.070.
