RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 8, 2016 – The United States men’s team finished fifth with a score of 268.560 at the 2016 Olympic Games at the Rio Olympic Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Japan earned gold with a 274.094, Russia took silver with a 271.453 and China earned bronze with a 271.122. Great Britain was fourth at 269.752. Competition continues tomorrow with the women’s team finals at 4 p.m. local time.

The U.S. Men’s Team consists of Chris Brooks of Houston, Texas/Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Jacob Dalton of Sparks, Nev./Team Hilton (University of Oklahoma); Sam Mikulak of Newport Coast, Calif./Team Hilton (U.S. Olympic Training Center); Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton (Universal Gymnastics); and Alex Naddour of Queen Creek, Ariz./Team Hilton (USA Youth Fitness).

    • Dalton – opened with an Arabian double layout; whip to Arabian double pike; two-and-a-half to front full; small hop on the triple full dismount.
  • Pommel horse
    • Naddour – opened with two scissors to handstand; nice single pommel work, closed with a Magyar to Sivado; struggled with handstand dismount.
  • Still rings
    • Dalton – showed great control on his opening strength holds; piked and tucked Yamawakis to back uprise Maltese; tucked double-double dismount with a small adjustment.
    • Naddour – opened with an Azarian Maltese to Azarian cross; piked Yamiwaki to back uprise Maltese; layout full out dismount with a small hop.
  • Vault: Mikulak and Dalton – stuck Kasamatsu double full; Naddour – Tsukahara double pike with one step forward.
  • Parallel bars
    • Mikulak – front toss; peach half; peach; giant Suarez; dismounts with double front half out.
    • Leyva – peach to one bar; peach full; giant Diamidov half; giant Diamidov; double font dismount.
  • Horizontal bar
    • Mikulak – Kolman; full Takamoto; Yamawaki half; tkatchev; dismounts with double twisting, double layout.

Women’s gymnastics

  • The women’s line-up for team finals is: vault – Hernandez, Raisman, Biles; uneven bars – Biles, Douglas, Kocian; balance beam – Raisman, Hernandez, Biles; and floor exercise – Hernandez, Raisman, Biles.

Individual finals

  • All-around: Mikulak and Brooks will compete in the all-around final Aug. 10, and Biles and Raisman will compete in the women’s all-around final on Aug. 11.
  • Aug 14: men — floor exercise, Mikulak and Dalton, and pommel horse, Naddour; women – vault, Biles and uneven bars, Kocian and Douglas.
  • Aug. 15: men – still rings, vault; women – balance beam, Biles and Hernandez
  • Aug. 16: men – parallel bars, Leyva, and horizontal bar, Leyva and Mikulak; women – floor exercise, Biles and Raisman.
