ESSEN, Germany (July 23, 2025) – The U.S. men’s team placed eighth in the team final and athletes earned berths to the all-around and apparatus finals Wednesday in artistic competition at the 2025 World University Games.
The American men’s team of Tate Costa (Narragansett, R.I./University of Illinois), Patrick Hoopes (Lehi, Utah/U.S. Air Force Academy), Alex Nitache (Knoxville, Tenn./University of Nebraska), Kai Uemura (Chicago, Ill./Stanford University) and Colt Walker (Austin, Texas/Stanford University) finished eighth overall in the team final with a 235.060, notching the second-highest team score on pommel horse (41.765) and third-highest on floor exercise (40.398). Japan (252.027), Canada (239.593) and Switzerland (239.162) took the top three spots, respectively.
Walker also secured a spot in the all-around final after scoring a 79.631 overall to land fifth. Uemura will act as first reserve after ranking 22nd with a 76.031. In apparatus competition, Costa notched the second-highest score of the day on floor (13.966) to advance to Saturday’s final and also was named first reserve on pommel horse with his score of 14.033 to place 10th. Hoopes will move onto the pommel horse final after his fourth-place finish on the apparatus with a 14.566. Nitache was active on all apparatus but pommel horse and vault.
Men’s competition in Germany resumes Friday, July 25 with all-around final competition beginning at 6:55 a.m. ET. The event will continue to stream live on fisu.tv and live scoring is available on the competition website.
