COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 8, 2011 – Brittany Johnson of Texas Woman’s University won the all-around on the first day of the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championships in the Cadet West Gymnasium at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. In addition, two teams from each semifinal round advanced to the team finals on Saturday, April 9, and the top 10 finishers for each apparatus will compete in the individual event finals on Sunday, April, 10.

The four schools competing in the team finals are: Seattle Pacific University, Texas Woman’s University, U.S. Air Force Academy and University of Bridgeport. The qualifiers for the individual event finalists are listed below.

Johnson won the all-around with her 39.075. The Air Force took both second and third place: Brittany Dutton was second at 38.925 and Jen Larsen was third at 38.750.

The University of Bridgeport, the defending national team champion, had the highest team score for the first semifinal at 192.775. Bridgeport had the top team scores for vault (48.325), balance beam (48.575) and floor exercise (48.875). Seattle Pacific University also qualified for the final team competition with its second place finish at 191.050. Temple University, which had the highest team score for uneven bars (47.675), was third at 190.750, missing advancing by 0.300.

Texas Woman’s University not only had the highest score for the second semifinal session at 194.125, but they also had the day’s highest team score. By taking second place at 193.200, the U.S. Air Force Academy advanced to the finals. TWU and the Academy split the top team event scores: TWU for vault (48.600) and floor exercise (48.800), and the Air Force for uneven bars (48.475) and balance beam (48.550). Cornell University was third at 192.575 and the University of Pennsylvania posted a 188.700.

The team finals, featuring four schools, are Saturday, April 9, at 7 p.m. ET. The top 10 finishers for each event will compete in the individual event finals on Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m. ET. Fans who cannot attend may follow the action online with a live video streaming: Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets for the 2011 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championships are available now. Single day passes are $10 for adults and $6 for children, and a three-day event pass is $25 for adults and $13 for children. The USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships is for Division I, II and III schools with less than seven-and-a-half full scholarships.
