SHREVEPORT, La., April 12, 2013 – Sasha Tsikhanovich of the University of Bridgeport won the all-around title on the first day of competition at the 2013 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. The competition continues with team finals on Saturday and individual event finals on Sunday.

The top two teams from each of the two qualification rounds advanced to the team finals on Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. CT. Texas Woman’s University and Brown University advanced to the team finals by finishing one-two in the afternoon session, with Bridgeport and Centenary advancing from the evening session.

Tsikhanovich posted a total of 39.375 to clinch the all-around crown, slipping by the University of Pennsylvania’s Kirsten Strausbaugh, who earned a 39.200. Rounding out the top three was Bridgeport’s Lissette La Fex at 38.975. Tsikhanovich’s event scores were: 9.850, vault; 9.775, uneven bars; 9.925, balance beam; and 9.825, floor exercise.

In the afternoon, TWU posted a team score of 194.100 to take top honors in the qualification round. Brown was second at 190.825, just edging out the Air Force, which tallied 190.750 points. Cornell earned 189.250 points. For the evening session, Bridgeport’s team score of 195.450 gave them the top ranking, followed by Centenary in second at 193.975. Seattle Pacific University was third at 193.900, followed by the University of Pennsylvania at 193.350.

The eight schools competing in the team competition are: U.S. Air Force Academy, Texas Woman’s University, Brown University, Cornell University, Seattle Pacific University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Bridgeport and host Centenary. Schools with athletes competing for an event or all-around title only are: Lindenwood University, Southern Connecticut State University, Temple University, West Chester University and Yale University.

The USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships is for Division I, II and III schools with less than seven-and-a-half full scholarships.
