In record-setting fashion, Team New Jersey recently secured the 2014 National High School Gymnastics Association Senior Invitational title at the Estero Recreation Center in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.


The team easily outscored second-place finisher Team Massachusetts by a score of 152.55 to 148.325. Team Connecticut finished third (145.275), followed by Team Wisconsin (143.825) and Team Texas (140.575).


Kierstin Sokolowski continued Team New Jersey’s winning ways, taking top honors in the all-around with a score of 38.950. Teammate Dominquea Trotter finished second (38.025), and Indiana’s Alex Nickel took third (37.525). New Jersey’s Kendall Valentin was fourth (37.400), while Team Massachusetts’ Eleanor Almeida and New Hampshire’s Kaylee Pacunas tied with a 37.125 to round out the top five.


In the event finals, Sokowloski continued New Jersey’s dominance, winning vault (9.800), balance beam (9.800) and floor exercise (9.650) while Trotter took the uneven bars title (9.600).


Team Wisconsin received the Team Sportsmanship Award, and Team Massachusetts’ coach Peter Gobiel was named Coach of the Meet.
