CHICAGO – Olympic gold-medalist Kerri Strug is in the Chicago metropolitan area to promote the 2009 Tyson American Cup, scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Strug, who won the American Cup in 1996, visited local gym clubs in the Chicago area on Jan. 12 and did early morning media interviews on Jan. 13, including a trip to Chicago’s Channel 2. Later on Jan. 13, she will visit the Chicago Park District’s Peterson Park Gymnastics Center to meet with young gymnasts and officially kick off the Tyson Fitness Challenge, a local six-week fitness initiative geared to help today’s youth achieve active lifestyles. USA Gymnastics partnered with Chicago 2016, World Sport Chicago and the Chicago Park District to hold the community-based activity to help promote the upcoming Tyson American Cup and to support Chicago 2016’s efforts to enhance youth sport programming through its legacy organization, World Sport Chicago, and its bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
