INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., April 5, 2009 – Ashley Stott of Temecula, Calif./Precision Gymnastics, and McKenzie Wofford of Spring, Texas/Stars Gymnastics Training Center-Houston, won the senior and junior all-around titles, respectively, at the 2009 American Classic, held April 4 in San Diego, Calif. The American Classic was a qualifying meet for the 2009 Visa Championships, scheduled for Aug. 12-15 in Dallas, Texas.
Stott won the senior all-around with a score of 54.599, followed by Kimberly Jacob of Raleigh, N.C./Superior Gymnastics, in second with a 52.998 and Brooke Parker of Lorton, Va./Capital Gymnastics NTC, in third with a 52.666. Stott also earned the top scores on vault with a 14.800 and balance beam with a 13.833. Jacob finished first on the uneven bars with a 12.966, and Kytra Hunter of Frederick, Md./Hill’s Gymnastics, placed first on floor exercise with a 14.533.
Wofford earned the junior all-around title with a score of 55.349. Kyla Ross of Aliso Viejo, Calif./Gym-Max Gymnastics, finished second with a 55.316 and Sabrina Vega of Carmel, N.Y./Dynamic Gymnastics, placed third with a 54.666. Claiming the top scores on the individual events were: Alexandra Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, vault, 14.650; Wofford, uneven bars, 14.266; Ross, balance beam, 14.666; and Claire Boyce of Kansas City, Mo./GAGE, floor exercise, 14.233.
The 2009 American Challenge, a competition for Hopes and junior pre-elite gymnasts, was held April 3-4 in conjunction with the American Classic. Both events were hosted by Poway Gymnastics.
