WEST POINT, N.Y., April 21, 2017 – Led by 2017 AT&T American Cup all-around bronze medalist and Nissen-Emery award winner Akash Modi, Stanford University posted the top score in the first of two national qualifiers held at Christl Arena at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. The second national qualifier is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET tonight, featuring the top-ranked and two-time defending NCAA champions the University of Oklahoma Sooners.

The national collegiate men’s national champions for team, all-around and individual events will be determined beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Stanford posted a team score of 420.450, followed by Ohio State University (414.650) and the University of Nebraska (413.050) to advance to tomorrow’s National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics Championships. Pennsylvania State University (410.500), the University of Michigan (406.950) and the U.S. Air Force Academy (403.800) rounded out the standings in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

The Cardinal were consistent on all six events, notching five team totals of 70.000 or more, highlighted by 70.600 on parallel bars. Their other event totals were: 70.350, floor exercise; 70.300, pommel horse; 70.000, still rings; 70.000, vault; and 69.200, horizontal bar. Modi leads the all-around standings, as well, with an 85.950 total.
