FORT WORTH, Texas, April 16, 2022 – After posting a season low on floor exercise to lead off the 2022 NCAA women’s gymnastics team finals, the Oklahoma Sooners roared back over the three remaining rotations to claim their fifth title in the last eight seasons Saturday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The Sooners held off the previously undefeated Florida Gators in the final rotation despite a perfect 10 from 2022 all-around national champion Trinity Thomas (senior, York, Pa.).

The Sooners delivered a cumulative 198.200 to edge the Gators (198.0875) by just over a tenth of a point. The Utah Red Rocks rounded out the top three with a 197.750, while the Auburn Tigers finished in the fourth spot with a 197.350.

Thomas notched the day’s high scores on vault (9.9875), uneven bars (9.975) and floor exercise (10.0) with Oklahoma’s Danielle Sievers (freshman, Gary, S.D.) also earning a 9.975 on bars. However, a clutch performance on balance beam from OU’s Ragan Smith (junior, Lewisville, Texas) sealed the deal for the Sooners. Smith served up a 9.9625 competing in the anchor spot of the fourth rotation to claim the afternoon’s top score on beam and the title of NCAA team champion.

As a team, Oklahoma led the way on vault (49.6625), bars (49.725) and beam (49.625). Florida received high marks on floor, amassing a 49.7125.

The 2022 NCAA Gymnastics Championships will wrap up tonight at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla., as the OU men’s side will look to complete the team title sweep. The action is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will air live on SoonerSports.TV and Stadium College Sports Central.
