INDIANAPOLIS, September 1, 2021 – Simpson College announced Wednesday that the school will be adding varsity men’s and women’s gymnastics for the 2022-23 season. Simpson also plans to create a community program to serve the Indianola and Des Moines, Iowa, areas, establishing an innovative sustainability model rooted in community integration.

"The opportunity to compete at the collegiate level is something that young gymnasts across the country dream about," said Stefanie Korepin, USA Gymnastics’ Chief Programs Officer. "For many, it represents the culmination of their athletic and academic careers, the fulfillment of years of hard work and determination, and the embarkation point for a life forever influenced by the formative experiences and lasting lessons that are unique to sports and the college athletic landscape.

"We know what a special goal competing in college is for many of the athletes we serve and are thrilled that both men’s and women’s gymnasts will be able to realize that goal at Simpson College, starting in 2022. We are also highly encouraged by Simpson’s innovative and forward-thinking community-based program model, which we believe will set the sustainability standard for the future of our sport within the collegiate ranks."

With the addition of a men’s program, Simpson will become the 15th college program in the nation and the only school in Iowa to offer men’s gymnastics. The women’s program is the third in the state. The Storm compete in the NCAA’s Division III.
