PHOENIX (August 6, 2026) – Day 1 of national championship competition kicked of Thursday, with Frederick Richard (Stoughton, Mass./University of Michigan) topping the senior standings in men’s competition while Hunter Egan (Waller, Texas/Cypress Academy of Gymnastics) and Elijah Connor (Bradenton, Fla./EVO Gymnastics) sat atop their respective junior divisions at Mortgage Matchup Center.

Richard takes the lead

Taking charge of the all-around the entire night, Richard will head into Saturday’s second and final day of competition with a score of 84.326 across six rotations, leading Danila Leykin (Sarasota, Fla./EVO Gymnastics) in second (84.173) and Shane Wiskus (Spring Park, Minn./EVO Gymnastics) in third (83.207).

Richard posted the best floor exercise score of the evening (14.758), while Patrick Hoopes (Lehi, Utah/U.S. Air Force Academy) was in command of the pommel horse after putting up a huge 15.641 on the apparatus ahead of Olympic bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik (Worcester, Mass./EVO Gymnastics), who scored a 14.958.

Cooper Kim (Grand Ledge, Mich./Stanford University) impressed with a monster 15.368 on horizontal bar, while Asher Cohen (Lakewood, Colo./University of Nebraska) was best on still rings with a 15.075. The final apparatus leaders were Yul Moldauer (Arvada, Colo./University of Oklahoma) on parallel bars with a 14.868, and Kameron Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/EVO Gymnastics) on vault with a two-vault score of 14.535 (14.821; 14.250).

Egan ahead of 17s, Connor tops 16s

In junior competition, Egan currently sits at the top of the 17-year-old division with an all-around score of 76.306. He also holds the highest score of his age group floor with a 14.434. Slotting in second was London Norris (Knoxville, Tenn./GymTek Academy) with a 76.261, who also notched high scores on rings (13.668) and parallel bars (13.838), while Jake Wazolek (New Windsor, N.Y./EVO Gymnastics) was third all-around with a 73.490.

Apparatus leaders from Thursday include Jackson Wilson (Columbus, Ohio/Integrity Athletics) on vault (14.381), Hayden Brown (Corona Del Mar, Calif./SCATS Gymnastics) on pommel horse (13.911), and Elijah Gutierrez (South Lyon, Mich./Infinity Gymnastics) on high bar (12.888).

Heading the 16-year-old age group in the top all-around spot is Connor, who scored a combined 80.052 and put up the highest score of his division on high bar with a 13.961. Bo McCrea (Chicago, Ill./Lakeshore Academy of Mt. Prospect) ranks behind Connor in second overall after scoring a 77.220, also having top scores on vault (14.481) and parallel bars (13.984). Holding the third all-around spot is William Rebar (Simi Valley, Calif./Coach Patty’s Gymnastics) with a 76.491.

Apparatus leaders are Andres Aranda (League City, Texas/Houston Gymnastics Academy) on floor (14.268), Jason Hao (Oakton, Va./Capital Gymnastics National Training Center) on rings (13.284), and Nixon Miles (Simi Valley, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica USA) on pommel horse (13.143).

The 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships continue Friday, August 7 with the first day of women’s competition. The junior women will kick it off at noon MST/3 p.m. ET, when fans can follow along on the USA Gymnastics YouTube channel. The seniors will then take the floor at 7 p.m. MST/10 p.m. ET, with the action being broadcast on NBCSN and streamed live on Peacock.
