MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 27, 2024) – On a night of amazing performances and dramatic moments, Frederick Richard (Stoughton, Mass./University of Michigan) made a late-rotation surge to emerge as the leader in the all-around after Day 1 of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Richard paced the field with an 85.600 in all-around competition, posting the highest scores of the night on his last two apparatus rotations. He earned a 14.400 on horizontal bar during the fifth rotation and a 14.700 on floor exercise to close out the night. Reigning U.S. all-around champion Brody Malone (Aragon, Ga. /EVO Gymnastics) sits second in the all-around rankings with an 85.100 and teammate Shane Wiskus (Spring Park, Minn./EVO Gymnastics) ranks third with an 84.300.
Curran Phillips (Naperville, Ill./EVO Gymnastics) posted the highest parallel bars score with a 15.600, and Stephen Nedoroscik (Worcester, Mass./EVO Gymnastics) is the pommel horse leader with a 14.450. Alex Diab (Hinsdale, Ill./EVO Gymnastics) put up a 14.600 on still rings to lead on the apparatus, and Donnell Whittenburg (Baltimore, Md./Salto Gymnastics) is first in the vault leaderboards after his two-vault score of 14.100 (13.800, 14.500).
The 2024 U.S. Men’s Olympic Team will be named following Day 2 of men’s competition in Minneapolis. Friday, June 28 will see the senior women take the floor for the first time at 7:25 p.m. ET.
