ANADIA, Portugal, May 30, 2014 – Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./University of Michigan, and Eddie Penev of Penfield, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (Stanford University), advanced to individual apparatus finals after the second of two days of qualification at the Anadia (Portugal) World Challenge Cup. Mikulak, Penev and Alex Naddour of Gilbert, Ariz./Team Hilton HHonors (USA Youth Fitness), will compete in tomorrow’s first day of event finals.

For Saturday’s finals, Penev and Mikulak will compete in the floor final, and Naddour will participate in the finals for both pommel horse and still rings. Competition concludes on Sunday with the finals for vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar. Mikulak will compete in all three finals on the last day, with Penev in the vault final.

Mikulak competed on all three events today – vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar – and advanced to the final in all three. He posted a 14.550 on the vault, which was good for fifth place. On the parallel bars, his 15.150 qualified him in third to the final. He scored a 14.900 to advance to the high bar final in second place. Penev, the top qualifier yesterday on floor, earned a spot in the vault final in third place with a 14.875 average score.
