Eddie Penev of Penfield, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (Stanford University), has been named U.S. Olympic Committee’s June Male Athlete of the Month. Penev took home two gold medals at the 2014 World Challenge Cup in Anadia, Portugal, after winning floor exercise (15.225) and vault (15.625).

Penev beat out a field of strong male athletes in the June Athlete of the Month competition, including swimmer Conor Dwyer and basketball player Stanley Johnson who finished second and third, respectively. Triathlete Gwen Jorgensen was awarded the women’s Athlete of the Month title and the U.S. Women’s Senior National Water Polo Team received Team of the Month honors.

Each National Governing Body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline. A voting panel selects the winners from the pool of nominees with online fan voting via Twitter accounting for 10 percent of the total vote.
