Eligibility Rhythmic National Team Challenge
  • The top 12 Juniors from the National Championships and the top 12 Seniors from the National Championships are eligible to compete in the Rhythmic Challenge.
  • Hopes who competed in the 2017 USA Gymnastics Championships may be invited to the 2018 Rhythmic Challenge at the invitation of the International Elite Coaches Committee.
  • All FIG level groups must attend the Rhythmic Challenge as the first step to advance to Elite Championships.
  • Gymnasts will compete in their valid age-divisions based on the year of the Challenge.
    • If either the Junior or Senior divisions in the year of the Challenge have less than 6 gymnasts, the next gymnast(s) in all-around rank-order from the respective age-division of the Championships will be invited.
  • National Team members will not pay entry fees
  • The Rhythmic Challenge may serve an international selection event per the National Team Training Plan and any official Selection Procedures.
Rhythmic Invitational
  • All level 10 gymnasts
  • Any gymnast competing as a level 9 for the 2017-2018 season who was born in 2004 or 2005 AND meets one of the below criteria:
    • Earned a 40.00 or higher AA score as a level 9 at the 2017 National Qualifier or 2017 Junior Olympic Championships
    • Earned a 39.00 or higher AA score as a level 8 at the 2017 Junior Olympic Championships
Registration and Entry Fee Registration Deadline: January 5, 2018

$150 per gymnast/group; $15 per coach*
*Current National Team Members and National Team head coaches do not pay entry fees. All current National Team Members and the head coach from each National Team club will be registered automatically by USA Gymnastics.

Accommodation – OTC Lodging A limited number of beds are available at the Olympic Training Center.
  • Challenge participants will receive first priority for the OTC beds
  • National Team (NT) clubs will receive second priority for OTC beds
    • Note: There may not be enough beds for all National Team Club participants. The beds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If any additional beds are remaining, they will be offered to non-National Team (NT) clubs after December 15th. NOTE: It is highly recommended that non-NT clubs DO NOT wait for beds at the OTC. There will likely be none available and hotels in the Lake Placid area are filling up for this weekend.
OTC Bed Request Instructions for Challenge Participants/National Team clubs:
  • Accommodation is guaranteed for Challenge participants who request beds by Friday, December 8th, 2017.
  • Other participants from NT clubs will be given second priority for beds through Friday, December 8th, 2017.

  • NT clubs will be notified by Monday, December 11th confirming whether the requested beds are available for their non-Challenge participants.
  • 2017 World Championships team members will receive complimentary accommodation
  • Challenge/NT clubs must pay for their beds by Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 or they will be released to other participants.
Cost: $75/night* - includes lodging and meals.
Other Lodging There is no host hotel for this event. Hotel rooms are in extremely short supply for the February 22nd-25th weekend due to a hockey tournament and the local hotels would not reserve any room blocks. Transportation Official Airport: Albany, NY (ALB) – 132 miles
Train Station: Albany-Rensselaer, New York (ALB) – 141 miles

Alternate Airport Possibilities:
  • Saranac Lake, NY – 16 miles
  • Burlington, VA (BVT) – 63 miles (requires ferry)
  • Montreal, Canada (YUL) – 116 Miles
Only those staying on-site at the OTC will be considered for transportation to/from the Albany airport. At no time is transportation guaranteed, but USA Gymnastics and the OTC staff will make best efforts for those staying on-site who have turned in flight information by January 19th.

Transportation Request Guidelines:
  • ARRIVALS: 5:00pm or earlier at the ALB airport
  • DEPARTURES: 12:00pm or later at the ALB airport
  • Flight information must be turned in to USA Gymnastics by January 19th using the travel form below to be considered for transportation.
  • All participants staying at the OTC must submit the travel form. It will be assumed that any participant who does not submit the travel form by January 19th will provide their own transportation.

Please be mindful of the fact that the OTC is several hours’ distance from the Albany Airport and there are a limited number of shuttles per day. It is possible that depending on arrival time there could be several hours wait for the next shuttle.
Meals Meal plans are available for participating athletes and coaches who are staying off-site at the rate of $45/day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the OTC cafeteria.

Membership and Attire Coaches and athletes must hold a current membership/safety/background check/U100 certification with USA Gymnastics to participate in the 2017 Rhythmic National Team Challenge and Level 10 Invitational

All coaches must be in club or athletic apparel with athletic shoes to be on the competition floor. Please remember to bring layers as temperatures can vary in the gym.
Difficulty Forms Difficulty forms will NOT be used for this competition.

Score forms will be available for coaches to pick up after the last session of competition on Sunday, February 25th. Score forms may not be picked up before that time for any reason. Score forms will not be mailed following the competition.
Awards Per the Rules & Policies. All National Team Members are REQUIRED to be present for awards.

  • Refunds for registration fees, OTC beds, and OTC meal cards will be provided in the case of injury or severe illness with a doctor’s note. Notification must be provided to jvincent@usagym.org at least 1 week prior to the event.
  • Refunds without a doctor’s note are not possible.
Additional information Please note: There are no vending machines or concession on-site. Participating athletes and coaches may pre-purchase a meal plan (see above). Meals are not available for parents/spectators. Please inform the parents from your club so they may plan ahead accordingly. The downtown Lake Placid area has many restaurants and shops to serve those without a meal plan.
