Ruggeri, Orozco medal at Cottbus World Cup

COTTBUS, Germany, March 25, 2012 – Paul Ruggeri of Manlius, N.Y./University of Illinois, and John Orozco of the Bronx, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors, won the silver and bronze medals, respectively, for the horizontal bar at the 2012 World Cup in Cottbus, Germany.

Ruggeri posted a 15.525 for the horizontal bar silver medal, finishing behind the Netherlands' Epke Zonderland (15.725). Orozco, who trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, was third at 15.375.

On vault, Ruggeri earned a two-vault average of 15.825 for his two vaults, 16.175 and 15.475. He tied for sixth with Jeffrey Wammes of the Netherlands. Igor Radivilov of the Ukraine won the event at 16.250, with Belarus' Dzmitry Kaspiarovich and Chile's Enrique Gonzales Sepulveda in second and third.

On the first day of the event finals, Jesse Silverstein of Spring Valley, N.Y./Gymnastics Development Center II, and Orozco competed in the still rings final, finishing sixth (15.025) and eighth (14.400), respectively. China's Chen Yibing was first at 15.675, followed by Brazil's Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti at 15.600 and Greece's Eleftherios Petrounias at 15.550.
