SAINT PAUL, Minn., Aug. 17, 2011 – Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla./Hilton HHonors, leads the all-around competition after the first night of the senior men's competition at the 2011 Visa Championships with a 92.500 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. The final day of the men's competition is Friday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. CT and will air live on Universal Sports television and website. Tomorrow, women's gymnastics takes center stage with the first day of competition for both junior and senior levels.

"I'm happy with today," Leyva said. "I feel like there are a couple of events that I can do even better on Friday, but overall, I feel like I did a good job."

Leyva, who trains at Universal Gymnastics, began the competition on the still rings, recording a 14.450. On vault, Leyva recorded a 15.750. In the third rotation, he posted the highest parallel bars score for the competition (16.200), performing a peach to Diamidov and stuck double pike. On the horizontal bar, Leyva performed a jam-packed routine that included a layout Kovacs, a full-twisting layout Tkatchev and a stuck double twisting, double layout to electrify the crowd. Leyva earned a 16.900 on the event, the highest score of the evening on any event, and moved into the all-around lead, which he never relinquished. On the floor exercise, Leyva dismounted with a stuck double layout for a 14.950, and Leyva recorded a 14.250 on pommel horse to end the night in first place.

Jonathan Horton of Houston/Team Hilton HHonors placed second in the all-around, posting a 90.400 total. Horton started on the parallel bars, where he performed a near flawless exercise for a 15.450. In the second rotation, Horton took to the horizontal bar, the event in which he is the 2008 Olympic silver medalist, executing three variations of the Kovacs and earning a 15.800. In the final rotation, Horton debuted a double front half out vault to earn a 16.050 and move into second place.

In third place after night one, Steven Legendre of Norman, Okla./Team Hilton HHonors, posted an all-around total of 89.400 points. Legendre started the evening off with a 16.700 for his handspring double front half out vault. He moved to the floor exercise in rotation four and earned a 15.950 for a routine that included a two-and-a-half twisting double back flip.

Jacob Dalton of Norman, Okla./University of Oklahoma, earned the highest score on floor exercise (16.100), tumbling a layout Arabian double layout first pass. Dalton also posted the highest mark on the vault (16.800) after nearly sticking a Kasumatsu double twist.

On pommel horse, Alexander Naddour of Norman, Okla./University of Oklahoma, led the way, scoring a 15.400 for the top ranking on the event.

2010 World Championships team member Brandon Wynn of Columbus, Ohio/Team Hilton HHonors, posted the highest score on the still rings for the night in the second rotation with a 15.750. Wynn's routine included near-perfect strength positions and a tuck double twisting double backflip dismount.

Leyva posted the highest score on both the parallel bars and the horizontal bar.

The final day of the men's competition will take place on Friday, Aug. 19, and scores will be added together to determine the all-around and event champions.
