Leah French Makes Future Star National Rhythmic Gymnastics Team

Leah French, 9, made this year's Future National Rhythmic Gymnastics Team and earned the right to train at the Future Star National Team Camp in Indianapolis, Indiana. French is from QRX Gymnastics in Houston, Texas and trains 25 hours per week. She's coached by Alice Hoop, who said, "Leah is incredible. She's such a dedicated, hardworking gymnast. She's very focused and it's great that she's in the top 25% for her age group in the country."

USA Gymnastics, the national governing body of the sport in the United States, conducts an annual talent opportunity program to identify young gymnasts who have the ability to excel in the sport. Through a series of tests, USA Gymnastics identified gymnasts in each age group 7-12, to make up the Future Stars National Team.

Leah, who attend ABC Elementary School and is in the 4th grade, just returned from the Future Stars National Camp in Indianapolis which was held, December 5-9, where she and her coach worked with the USA Gymnastics National Coaching Staff.

"It was a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun," said Leah. "It was great meeting and working with all of the National Gymnastics Coaching Staff. It was also fun to meet other athletes that love rhythmic gymnastics as much as I do."

Caroline Hunt, USA Gymnastics Rhythmic Program Director, commented on the National Camp by saying, "This really is a gathering of the girls who are the future Elite level rhythmic athletes."

The first every Future Star Regional Testing took place in the Fall and 169 gymnasts participated. From those who participated, 31 gymnasts from around the country were invited to the Future Stars National Team Camp.

At the regional testing the gymnasts performed physical abilities tests that included dance skills, acrobatics, strength, flexibility, balance, and agility. The scores are tallied and the top 25% from each age group were named to the Future Star National Team.

QRX Gymnastics is owned and operated by Brittany Larson and is located at 1234 Clubs Lane in Houston. For more information on its gymnastics program call 222-2222.
