CHICAGO, Ill., June 26, 2010 – In a repeat of 2009, Ellina Tregubova of Russia won her second Chicago Cup senior all-around crown at Chicago’s Broadway Armory tonight. The USA’s Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., earned the all-around silver medal, with Mexico’s Rut Castillo claiming the bronze. Chicago Cup competition continues on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. with junior and senior individual apparatus finals. Prior to the Chicago Cup event finals, four gymnasts will compete as part of the Level 10 Invitational at 10 a.m. for the opportunity to represent the United States at the Youth Olympic Games.

Tregubova won the all-around title with a score of 103.300, earning the top score in rope (26.750), hoop (26.450) and ribbon (26.350). Zetlin, who trains at Rhythmflex, finished second at 101.325, placing in the top three on all four apparatus: first in ball (25.100), second in rope (25.325) and hoop (26.100), and third in ribbon (24.800). Castillo took third in the all-around, scoring a 98.075, as well as earning the second highest score in ribbon (25.150) and third in both hoop (24.075) and ball (24.375).

Shelby Kisiel of Houston/North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, finished fifth with a 95.375. Although Olga Pavlenko of Brooklyn, N.Y./Isadora, earned the sixth best all-around score, she is not ranked due to the maximum two athletes per country rule for placement rankings in an international event. JoAnna Arnold of Northville, Mich./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, also competed for the United States.

The Level 10 Invitational will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, prior to the Chicago Cup event finals. As part of the Chicago Level 10 Invitational, four gymnasts will vie for the USA’s berth to the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in August: Megan Kincaid of Los Angeles/California Rhythms, Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa./Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy, Alexis Page of New York City/Aviator Sports and Recreation, and Amanda Tran of Shoreline, Wash./Kortel Academy of Gymnastics.
