USA Gymnastics University: Online Course Registration FAQ

USA Gymnastics University currently offers a number of online learning opportunities to our members, such as the Safety/Risk Management certification course, and the new Foundation of Gymnastics Instruction course we introduced last month. We realize that this new educational format might be challenging to some people. We offer a thorough Frequently Asked Questions page on our University website but would like to cover some of the questions and issues regarding registration in particular.

Q: I registered and paid for my course. Why am I not able to log in?
A: If you have double-checked that you are using the correct username and password, and you received the payment confirmation screen at the time you registered, you probably didn't click the "Go to e-Learning" button on the confirmation screen. This is the final step in registering for online courses. Clicking the link logs you into the course and finalizes your registration. You do not need to take the course at that time, but you must have logged in to the course through your registration process to be able to log back in and take the course as your schedule allows.

Q: I registered to take an online course but then changed my mind and decided to take a live course. Can I get a refund?
A: The short answer is no. We do not generally offer registration payment refunds for online courses. This policy is stated on each individual course information page: "Online course fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another individual."

Q: I registered for an online course back in January but forgot to finish it. Do I have to pay again?
A: Yes, you'll have to pay again. The standard access period for our online courses is 30 days. If you are unable to take the course within that time, your access will expire. If you have had some kind of issue with not being able to log in, or a personal issue that has prevented you from taking the course within the 30 days, you MUST contact us before your access expires. Contacting us regarding your registration issue in a timely manner is a sign of your good intentions towards learning and will allow us to make a case-by-case decision on offering you a limited extension on your course access. Extension requests made after the original access period are rarely approved.

Q: I tried to register again for an expired course but the system wouldn't let me pay and told me to call Member Services. Why?
A: The process of re-registering for a course works differently than a first registration. If you need to re-register, go ahead and do it online. When you get to the screen that advises you to call Member Services, please do so. Advise the representative that you re-registered for an online course and need to make the payment over the phone. The representative will take down your credit or debit card information and finalize your registration. You will receive a confirmation email reflecting the payment as well as a re-registration confirmation email from Education Services when your access to the course has been unlocked.

If you have questions regarding course registration, USA Gymnastics University, or our Level 1 certification program, please contact us at education@usa-gymnastics.org.

Do we have your current contact information?

Attention all USA Gymnastics Members!
  • Have You Moved?
  • Have You Changed Your Email Address?
  • Are You Using Your Club's Email Address?

It is extremely important that ALL USA Gymnastics members keep the USA Gymnastics Member Services department informed of their current contact information; most importantly, their email address.

Membership news updates and information are sent via email, and very few items are sent to the physical home address anymore. Failure to update your contact information with USA Gymnastics may result in missing out on many new and upcoming membership updates and/or changes.

Please note that background check information is also sent via email by the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI). Failure to provide current email contact information to NCSI may also result in delayed processing of the background check.

Don't miss out on these important updates to your membership! Below is a list of the variety of information that members are receiving via email.

  • Background Check notifications, updates and changes
  • Membership renewal notices
  • Membership instructions
  • Pending memberships/Sanction notification
  • Monthly Member Services E-Newsletter
  • Membership updates and changes
  • USA Gymnastics University course offerings
  • Educational updates
  • Club Services updates
  • Meet Director information
  • Athlete information
  • Membership cards
  • NCSI Background check notification

If you have not received these important informational items it may be that USA Gymnastics and/or NCSI do not have your current personal email address. If you use a shared email address, such as a general club email address viewed by others, it is possible that your emails are lost in the shuffle. It is the responsibility of each member to keep their membership up-to-date and current within membership requirements and rules.

There are 3 easy ways to update your personal contact information:

  1. USA Gymnastics Website (www.usa-gymnastics.org)

New Education Benefit for Member Clubs

USA Gymnastics recently announced its new online educational course, Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction. This course is being provided as a benefit of membership to certain member types, as well as to our Member Clubs. Clubs can now access and take advantage of this wonderful educational tool.

As part of membership, clubs will receive one year of access to the Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction online course. The course access will be set-up in the club's name and allow the club to utilize this educational tool to train staff at all levels. Clubs can use this education in a variety of ways including allowing individual staff to complete the course on their own, using the club's username and password, or presenting the course material during staff meetings and educational training sessions. We encourage clubs to set-up an LCD projector and go through various sections of the course during staff meetings. This is a great place to start a discussion and follow-up with club policies, procedures, and further training tips.

While clubs will have unlimited access to the course for a year and may use the education as they see fit to train their staff, this course access is for educational purposes only and will not provide certification to individuals. If clubs wish for their staff to earn USA Gymnastics Level 1 Certification through the completion of the Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction course, each individual must be registered for the course. Options for USA Gymnastics membership and course registration include:

  1. Professional Membership ($84) - This member type carries the requirements of Safety/Risk Management Certification ($65) and Background Check through NCSI (starting at $21.25), both of which are great credentials for all staff to have, and allows individuals access to USA Gymnastics sanctioned events. With the Professional Membership, the cost of the Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction is free!

  2. Introductory Coach Membership ($15) - This member type carries the requirements of Safety/Risk Management Certification ($65) and Background Check through NCSI (starting at $21.25), both of which are great credentials for all staff to have, and allows individuals access to USA Gymnastics sanctioned meets at Levels 1-3 and Prep Optional. With the Introductory Coach Membership, the cost of the Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction is free!

  3. Instructor Membership ($50) - With the Instructor Membership, the cost of the Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction is $15! The Instructor Membership also provides educational discounts on all other USA Gymnastics courses and congresses.

  4. No membership - Registration and access to the course for individuals who are not members will be available shortly and cost $25.

As you can see there are many ways for clubs to utilize this new educational tool and allow their staff to become USA Gymnastics University certified!

Club access to the online Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction course will be granted with club renewals or new applications. The course access will be renewed yearly as the Member Club membership is renewed. Please contact Loree Galimore with additional questions.

National Gymnastics Day is Saturday, September 18, 2010 and will culminate with the Tyson Fitness Challenge to raise money for Children's Miracle Network. The Tyson Fitness Challenge, the eight-session program, will kick off at the Tyson American Cup in March and continues through September 18, 2010 National Gymnastics Day.

The past 4 years of the Tyson Fitness Challenge have been a great success, but we want to make it even better this year. Based on feedback from our clubs, we have expanded the Tyson Fitness Challenge to provide you with even more benefits and ideas!

Here's what's new:

  • Earlier access to the Tyson Fitness Challenge website
  • Earlier access to the online giving website
  • New cardio games
  • Nutrition handouts that highlight portion size and better healthy food options as well as quick and simple recipes from USA Gymnastics athletes
  • New exercise content provided by St. Vincent's Sport Performance Center Consultants

Each month, additional program details will be emailed to the clubs and professional members, and we will post the Tyson Fitness Challenge as a standalone class or part of your spring/ summer, camps, team workouts or fall classes.

Through your participation in the Tyson Fitness Challenge and your choice to raise money for Children's Miracle Network, 100% of the funds raised will go to your local Children's Miracle Network hospital. Fundraising and fitness go hand in hand! By incorporating the Tyson Fitness Challenge into your schedule, you are helping get today's youth off the couch and be more physically active, and by encouraging kids to fundraise for Children's Miracle Network, you are helping to engage them in your community!

Safety Matters: Why Recertification?

Safety/Risk Management certification through USA Gymnastics University is a requirement for all Professional, Junior Professional, Introductory Coach, and Junior Introductory Coach members. Recertification involves participating in a four hour learning period followed by a one hour test, regardless of how long you have been a USA Gymnastics member and/or gymnastics professional.

We believe that by requiring our professional members to be educated and certified in the area of safety and risk management, USA Gymnastics is taking a clear position as to our belief that the highest standards o frisk management and injury prevention must be present during all gymnastics activities.

The gymnastics professional is the link between the gymnastics program and safe participation by the athlete. The level of professionalism of coaches, judges, and administrators continues to increase as organizations increase attention on accreditation/certification, continuing education programs, training programs and safety for sport professionals. All of this helps to guarantee the future of sport programs, including gymnastics, and increase the level of safety awareness and vigilance that must be maintained and continually improved.

If you have questions regarding the certification or recertification process, please contact Member Services at 800-345-4719 or by emailing the Education Services department.

USA Gymnastics is a non-for-profit organization which is the sole national governing body (NGB) for the sport of gymnastics in the United States. Our mission is to increase public awareness of, and encourage participation in, all aspects of gymnastics, and to support athletes in their pursuit of competitive excellence.
