NEW YORK (October 12, 2022) – The Women’s Sports Foundation Wednesday awarded reigning Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee the title of 2022 Individual Sportswoman of the Year at the organization’s Annual Salute to Women in Sports in New York.

The winner was determined by a public vote, held in August, from among 10 finalists spanning the Tokyo Summer and Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Finalists were selected based on their athletic performances between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022.

During that time, Lee earned team silver and was the uneven bars bronze medalist in addition to topping the all-around podium at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics. As a freshman at Auburn University, she claimed the NCAA balance beam title and was the all-around runner up. Lee also captured the Southeastern Conference’s uneven bars championship and was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Year. In December, she was honored as Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Female Athlete of the Year.

The Women’s Sports Foundation was established in 1974 to advance the lives of women and girls through sports and physical activity. In addition to celebrating female leaders in sport, this year’s Annual Salute honored the 50th anniversary of Title IX and the organization’s continuing efforts to achieve equity in athletics.
