U.S. athletes earn 14 medals, six gold, on final day of 2022 City of Jesolo Trophy

JESOLO, Italy, April 10, 2022 - U.S. athletes claimed 14 medals across the junior and senior apparatus finals, as the 2022 City of Jesolo Trophy competition came to a close Sunday in Italy. Junior all-around champion Tiana Sumanasekera (Pleasanton, Calif./West Valley Gymnastics School) collected three event titles, while her senior counterpart, Konnor McClain (Cross Lanes, W.Va./WOGA Gymnastics), added two. The American contingent swept team and all-around gold Saturday.

In the junior division, Sumanasekera claimed the top spot on vault (13.500 - 13.800, 13.200), balance beam (13.800) and floor exercise (12.850). Zoey Molomo (Frisco, Texas/Metroplex Gymnastics) took home silver on vault (13.475 - 13.500, 13.450) and floor (12.800), while Madray Johnson (Dallas, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics) also collected two silver medals. She was the runner up on uneven bars (13.400) and beam (13.500). Myli Lew added a bronze on bars with a 13.250. Germany's Helen Kevric notched the day's high score on the apparatus with a 13.700.

McClain led the way on balance beam (13.850) and floor exercise (13.900), while Zoe Miller (Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre) paced the field on uneven bars with a 14.450. Shilese Jones (Auburn, Wash./Ascend Gymnastics Center) took silver on bars behind a 14.300 and added a bronze on beam with a 13.550. Italy's Martina Maggio was second on beam with a 13.800. McClain just edged fellow 2021 World Championships team member eMjae Frazier on floor. Frazier secured the silver with a 13.850. France's Coline Devillard topped the field on vault with a 13.675. Italy's Asia D'Amato (13.650) and Canada's Ellie Black (13.350) rounded out the top three.

Only two athletes per country were allowed to advance to Sunday's apparatus finals based on their performances during Saturday's team and all-around competition. All qualified U.S. athletes collected individual event medals Sunday on the final day of action at the Palainvent Jesolo.
