Amano, Gesuelli notch top-five performances at 2022 Baku World Cup

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 13, 2022 - World team silver medalists Maia Amano of Honolulu, Hawaii/Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy and Cody Gesuelli of Huntsville, Ala./Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy each posted a top-five showing Sunday at the Baku World Cup in Azerbaijan in their first international appearances of 2022. Gesuelli and teammate Jace Williams of Cave Creek, Ariz./North Valley Gymnastics were sixth in men's synchronized trampoline.

Amano, who qualified to the women's individual trampoline final in the eighth position, delivered a 50.270 to claim fifth. Russia's Irina Kundius took the top spot with a 53.900, while Azerbaijan's Seljan Mahsudova (52.780) and Italy's Giorgia Giampieri (51.820) rounded out the podium.

After registering a 56.940 Saturday to advance to the second round of qualifications for men's individual trampoline, Gesuelli garnered a 56.000 in his first routine on Sunday to secure a spot in the final. He saved his best performance of the competition for last, earning a 57.300 en route to a fifth-place finish. Ivan Litvinovich (61.850) and Andrei Builou (60.800), both of Belarus, were first and second, respectively. Kazakhstan's Danil Mussabayev (58.890) claimed the bronze.

Gesuelli and Williams showed improvement in the men's synchronized trampoline final, scoring a 45.310 to take sixth. The pair of Builou and Litvinovich finished in the top spot with a 52.810, while the Russian duo of Danila Kasimov and Kirill Kozlov (50.820) was second. Portugal's Diogo Abreu and Pedro Ferreira (49.960) took third.
