Summary Description
USA Gymnastics’ premier events – including U.S. Olympic Trials, U.S. Gymnastics’ Championships, American Cup and GK Classic, among others – are first and foremost intended to provide gymnasts with a forum to compete and showcase their talents, while also serving as a way to promote the sport of gymnastics in the U.S. and around the world.

The Director of Event Operations will oversee all aspects of these important events for five disciplines: Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, and Trampoline and Tumbling.

In this critical role, the Director will bring to life our organizational values by creating events that provide a safe and positive environment for athletes, and a warm, welcoming and hospitable environment to international delegations and fans.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Director will be responsible for:

  • Developing and nurturing strong internal relationships with USAG program leaders and other internal stakeholders, in order to effectively collaborate and deliver events that put our athletes’ needs first;
  • Fostering external relationships with destinations, venues, and sports commissions, with an eye toward providing events and experiences to our athletes and community in diverse locations throughout the country;
  • Manage contract and legal negotiations with venues, hotels, and other partners for all premier events;
  • Managing the budget for all premier events, with a goal of providing a world-class event experience for our athletes, international delegations, and fans in a cost-efficient way;
  • Selecting the best possible venues for event needs, including space requirements, technology needs, proximity to hotels and airports, etc.;
  • Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all gymnastics program needs are met, including equipment, training space, and hospitality needs;
  • Ensure the successful execution of all premier events, including event scheduling, venue set-up and tear down, security and credential access, signage, press operations, scoring systems, and other event components;
  • Working closely with sports commission partners and local marketing teams to plan and promote events; and
  • Serving as the primary liaison between television and OTT broadcast and production partners and USA Gymnastics.
Requirements and Competencies
  • Strong emotional intelligence, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with all functional units of an organization
  • Strong leadership skills, with ability to oversee several team members and help them grow professionally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to senior executives, employees, and other audiences
  • Effective collaboration, including through transparent communication and work processes
  • Cultural and global awareness
  • Ability to proactively problem solve, and maintain a positive “can do” attitude under stress
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to tackle problems effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter who will take initiative with new projects and work with a variety of people
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience, working in sports, events or other related field
  • Experience in gymnastics strongly preferred

  • Position is based in Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Salary and benefits commensurate with experience
  • Weekend work and travel will be required
