Summary Description
The Paralegal will assist the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and other legal professionals, including outside counsel, by providing a range of legal support and administration, to include conducting research, preparing legal correspondence, drafting legal documents, creating reports and maintaining files and case-management databases. This position reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing for legal events, including hearings, depositions, transactional closings and conferences
  • Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
  • Completing various administrative tasks, including organizing and filing legal documents; including discovery documents and creating a case-management database
  • Drafting legal court documents, such as corporate governance documents, diligence documents, and affidavits
  • Drafting transactional documents, such as contracts, leases and closing documents
  • Assisting with routine discovery
  • Obtaining due diligence materials, such as corporate certificates of good standing, title information and securities filings
  • Create reports for legal matters
  • Assist with developing legal arguments, motions and other case filings
  • Monitor changes to government guidelines or regulations and submit reports on pertinent changes
  • Gather and analyze statues, decisions and legal articles, codes and documents
  • Summarize depositions, testimony, documents and interrogatories
  • Conducting investigations and documentary research
  • Locate witnesses and assist with witness interviews as requested
  • Other duties as assigned by CLO or other Sr. Leaders
Requirements and Competencies
  • Proficient PC skills: including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in using legal database software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to plan ahead, think pro-actively, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong research and report-generating skills.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, high-staked and at times stressful environment.
  • Professional decorum and strong business acumen.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and strict confidentiality with handling sensitive company information and attorney-client privilege.
  • Extensive knowledge of office administration, clerical procedures, and recordkeeping systems.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies is required, Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Industry recognized certification from organization such as NALA or AACP is required
  • At least three years of related experience required
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Stamina and dedication are required as long work hours may occasionally be required
Other Information
  • Position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Salary and benefits commensurate with experience
  • Weekend work and some travel will be required
