Summary Description
This position will play a pivotal role in the organization’s media/public relations and social media initiatives and efforts. The position will manage the day-to-day news monitoring efforts; assist with all media/public relations needs for the organization, as well as social media and video efforts and will report to the vice president of communications.

Responsibilities

    Media and Public Relations
    • Serve as a media contact for USA Gymnastics
    • Write press releases, website stories, other media materials, and social posts
    • Proofread releases, web stories and articles, as well as other documents as needed
    • Handle media calls, fulfill media requests, arrange interviews, pitch stories, etc.
    • Manage media-related content on website; media distribution lists; manage media monitoring for USA Gymnastics and events
    • Assist the United States Olympic Committee, International Gymnastics Federation, other National Governing Bodies, and additional stakeholders as needed
    Press Operations for Events
    • Handle media credentialing and assist with media operations planning
    • Generate event-related materials; pitch; coordinate and manage conference calls with athletes
    • Work with onsite media with questions, access, etc.
    Social Media
    • Work closely with social media manager on social media strategies
    • Handle social media initiatives and content
    • Assist with video projects and needs
Requirements and Competencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; working knowledge of AP style, grammar
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and social media platforms
  • Experience providing content for media, website, social media
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software (primarily Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder)
  • Professional experience posting on social media (mostly Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Familiarity with live streaming to YouTube and other platforms
  • Ability to pro-actively problem solve
  • Ability to maintain a positive “can do” attitude under stress
  • Experience with gymnastics preferred
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree, with a major in journalism, communications, public relations or similar area of study
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience needed
Other Information
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work weekends
  • Ability to multi-task; take initiative; be deadline-oriented; maintain confidentiality and work both as part of a team and independently
  • Salary and benefits commensurate with experience
