Nichols wins NCAA all-around title

FT. WORTH, Texas, April 19, 2019 – Maggie Nichols of the University of Oklahoma won her second straight all-around title at the 2019 National Collegiate Women’s Championships at the Fort Worth (Texas) Convention Center Arena. The University of California – Los Angeles is seeking to defend its team title against Louisiana State University, University of Denver and University of Oklahoma in tomorrow night’s team final at 6 p.m. CT. In the all-around, Nichols posted a 39.7125 for the all-around crown. Kyla Ross of UCLA and Lexy Ramler of the University of Minnesota tied for the silver at 39.6625. The individual event champions are: vault, 9.9500 – Kennedi Edney of LSU, Derrian Gobourne of Auburn University, Nichols, Ross; uneven bars, 9.9500 – Sarah Finnegan of LSU; balance beam, 9.9500 -- Natalie Wojcik of University of Michigan; and floor exercise, 9.9500 -- Alicia Boren of University of Florida, Lynnzee Brown of DU, Brenna Dowell of OU, Ross.

In the first session, UCLA posted a 197.6750 to slip by LSU’s 197.5125 for the top spot. Michigan was third at 197.200 and Utah in fourth with 196.7250. UCLA’s team event scores were: vault, 49.2875; uneven bars, 49.4125; balance beam, 49.3625; and floor exercise, 49.6125, the top score.

In the second session, Oklahoma clinched its spot in the finals with a 197.8500. Denver and Oregon State University battled for the second spot, with Denver edging OSU out 197.0375 to 196.9000. The University of Georgia was fourth at 196.4625.

The championships is hosted by Texas Woman's University and Knight Eady.
