Online giving is a fun way to raise money for Children's Miracle Network

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 11, 2007 - Gymnastics clubs across the country will use a new, online giving program designed to make raising money through the Tyson Fitness Challenge for Children’s Miracle Network fun and easy. This summer marks the seventh straight year that USA Gymnastics and its member clubs have raised money to benefit Children’s Miracle Network. The clubs have raised more than $645,000 and the goal is to raise that total to $1 million by the end of 2008.

“We believe the online giving program is a great way for gym clubs to become more involved in USA Gymnastics’ fundraising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “This technology will help gymnastics fans across the nation assist us in reaching our goal of $1 million by the end of 2008.”

Today’s kids primarily use computers to communicate with friends online, and this program allows the Tyson Fitness Challenge participants to have their friends and family make their donations through a secure Web site. The kids can monitor their personal fundraising efforts and see how their club’s efforts compare to others across the country.

Supporters may donate directly to their favorite club or gymnast and 100 percent of the money raised will go to that club’s local Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

The Tyson Fitness Challenge, a joint initiative of USA Gymnastics and Tyson Foods, has two goals: helping today’s kids get more physically fit through fun activities; and raising money to help kids who are fighting illnesses through Children’s Miracle Network. Geared toward youngsters, ages 4-16, the program is not about teaching gymnastics skills, but using gymnastics to help kids become more physically fit, as well as learn about a well-balanced diet.

The Tyson Fitness Challenge culminates on Aug. 4, 2007 when clubs across the country host National Gymnastics Day celebrations to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. Participants can collect flat donations or obtain pledges for achieving a set number of elements in a specified time, whether it is fitness-related skills, cartwheels, flips, etc. For a list of clubs hosting the Tyson Fitness Challenge, go to and click on “TFC in Action.”

Established in 1999, National Gymnastics Day is a platform to showcase the many benefits of gymnastics, as well as to promote the ideals of physical fitness and community service nationwide. Gymnastics clubs and their gymnasts celebrate National Gymnastics Day by holding open houses, exhibitions at local malls and parks, and other fun and entertaining events.
