Zeng, Kapitonova, capture all-around titles at 2018 Rhythmic Challenge

LAKE PLACID, N.Y., Feb. 26, 2018 – Laura Zeng of Libertyville, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, and Elizabeth Kapitonova of Staten Island, N.Y./Isadora, won the senior and junior titles, respectively, over the weekend at the Rhythmic Challenge. The competition was held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.

In the senior competition, Zeng earned individual scores of 18.000, hoop; 17.250, ball; 16.200, clubs; and 16.450, ribbon, for a 67.900 in the all-around. Evita Griskenas of Orland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, was second, earning 64.450 in the all-around. Lili Mizuno of Brentwood, Calif./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, rounded out the top three and scored 63.800. Camilla Feeley of Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, tallied a 62.900 to finish fourth, and Nastasya Generalova of Los Angeles/California Rhythms, was fifth (60.200).

Kapitonova took the top spot in the junior competition with a 58.500 score in the all-around and earned scores of 15.350, hoop; 14.750, ball; 15.550, clubs; and 12.850, ribbon. Matylda Marszalek of Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, was second with a 55.650 total, followed by Shannon Xiao of Fairfax, Va./Gymnastics World, at 54.650.
Lennox Hopkins Wilkins of Puyallup, Wash./Evergreen Rhythmics, and Helena Pavlovcic of Los Angeles, Calif./California Rhythms, placed fourth (53.850) and fifth (50.200), respectively.
