November women’s national team camp underway this week

HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Nov. 7, 2017 - The November women’s national team camp began yesterday at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center in Huntsville, Texas. 1988 Olympic champion and national team coordinator Valeri Liukin leads the camp, which runs through Friday.

For the athletes, this will be a working camp with no full routine work. The camp will begin with physical abilities testing, followed by verification of skills and combinations into soft or hard surfaces. The athletes will work on new skill acquisition, routine reconstruction and improving the technical execution of existing skills and dance elements.

Three members of the U.S. Women’s 2017 World Championships Team are expected to participate: World vault and floor silver medalist Jade Carey of Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Sunrays; World all-around champion Morgan Hurd of Middletown, Del./First State Gymnastics; and U.S. all-around champion Ragan Smith of Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams.
